As a young child in the early 70s I was a coliseum regular despite not quite understanding what was going on the first couple of years. Back in those days, nearly every weekend we could chalk up a W in the record book. It got to the point for me that I would literally weep (I would SERIOUSLY sob profusely) if we lost a game. I even relocated with them to Socal so that I would never miss a game. It was like that for the first 18 years or so that I followed my cherished black and silver clad gladiators. We all just kind of got used to winning and expected that it would always be that way. As Al Davis said on many an occasion, "just win baby", we just kept on doing it.
Oh how I long for those days of yester! It now appears to those of us on the outside looking in that Al Davis has lost his touch and become a fragile elderly man. He generally shies away from the public and at practice in Napa, security tells the crowd that if anyone so much as glances toward Mr. Davis' direction that it is cause for removal from the premises. The group that I was with was told that anyways. What a sad state our beloved squad has fallen into !
So how are they to regain their once and former glory ? Alas, it appears that they are destined to spiral themselves into a corkscrew depression until Mr. Davis either disappears or comes to his senses and ceases his bickering and incessant blaming of others. I wish there were some other way , for Mr. Davis is truly one of the greatest football minds of all time and I have spent many years admiring and appreciating the man, but he is just not making things happen anymore. The Raiders at one point were the winningest team in ALL of professional sports (not just football) but that seems as if it were just a dream now. And it might as well have been, for we have become the losingest team in the NFL and I can think of no other reason than Mr. "Just Win Baby".
